The debate of the female rapper has definitely been a major one in hip hop culture over the years, and started out when Lil Kim and Foxy Brown were going head-to-head with each other in the 1990’s. The debate became much more expanded when Lauryn Hill came heavy into the picture, and dropped one of the arguably greatest hip hop albums of all time, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Now, Remy Ma has spoken out, and she made quite a bold statement.
In a new video that was posted to her Instagram page, Remy can be heard sharing her belief that she is the best female rapper of all-time. She says that she thinks that “none of these rap chicks, past, present or future, can f*ck with me.” It’s definitely a risky statement, as many also have put Nicki Minaj into the same debate of today, who has been statistically the most successful of all the female MC’s.

Remy’s statements are definitely sparking an even larger debate in the hip hop community, as many wonder what is the criteria that goes into naming a dominant female rapper. While many have argued that Remy is one of the best MC in a lyrical sense, some would say that Lauryn Hill is up there as far as making wholesome music to form a project.
It goes even as far back as MC Lyte and Queen Latifah, who spoke a lot on female empowerment back in the 80’s and 90’s, making them some of the leaders of the female school. Today, some have argued that Nicki is the best female rapper because of her success, while others would debate with Lil Kim being at the top, since she paved the way for a lot of Nicki’s style. The question of the matter is – what does it mean to be the best female rapper in the game?
