We’ve watched the likes of J.Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Big Sean, Future, and more gain momentum and notoriety after watching their faces plastered on the prestigious magazine cover. Despite having a multitude of stars bless the cover over the years, several artists have been declining the magazine’s invite. With Drake bubbling in 2009, XXL was primed to make a full-fledge pursuit at the Toronto star for their coveted cover. Instead of accepting, Drake turned them down. He said in an interview that he didn’t feel he or Nicki were freshmen anymore when they were asked.
Like her partner Drake, Nicki declined an invitation to join the Freshmen class in 2010.
