The toughest part about this prelude release may be the simply fact that many were hoping that King Push would automatically land the top of their year-end album lists in hip hop. My Name Is My Name was in almost everyone’s top 5 rap albums of the year back in 2013, but now King Push will have to wait to possibly be a candidate for 2016. There aren’t too many known details about Darkest Before Dawn, but with the material we’ve heard from Pusha, it shouldn’t disappoint.

There’s still a chance that Pusha can make the year-end lists, and Darkest Before Dawn will have to seriously deliver some hard stuff in order for that to happen. This year has been arguably one of the best that hip hop has seen as a whole in a very long time, as almost every rapper has released an anticipated, and even not-so-anticipated project this year. Next year is definitely a clean slate for artists, but with Drake already planning a January 2016 release of Views From The 6, we may start off with some very fierce competition for the rest of the year.
