17 years ago today, music was blessed with one of the best albums of the 20th century. Forget hip hop, The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill is a sonic masterpiece that has been celebrated by music appreciating human beings worldwide. Former Fugees member Lauryn Hill dropped her debut solo release on August 25th, 1998 and told stories of pain inspired by motherhood, heartbreak, loss, spirituality, and much more. Despite the LP intended to hit home more for women, the genre transcendent project also gracefully broke through gender.

Lauryn Hill’s debut album earned her five awards in the 1999 Grammys. To this day, especially in an era where hip hop is more sexualized than ever, fans of our culture are praying for another project to drop with just as heavy as an impact as The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill. While L Boogie has had her fair share of legal and personal woes since the 1998 release, hip hop will always remember this classic album. Thank you, Lauryn Hill!
