Review: Rico’s Love #TTLO Is What RnB’s Missing

Yesterday HipHopMyWay was in attendance for Rico Love’s album listening session. #TTLO, short for Turn The Lights On gives fans an inside look at his love life and his world that They Don’t Know. The Grammy nominated songwriter/producer couldn’t have picked a better title for his debut album, which features him shedding light on personal topics such as: staying with his significant other to keep a family intact (“For The Kids”,) catching feelings for someone who’s in a relationship with someone (“The Proposal”,) and wondering if the world will accept him once the magnifying glass examines his life from a closer lens (“Turn The Lights On.”) Even the LP’s lead single, “Somebody Else” features Rico telling a story on lost love, a relatable topic on failed relationship that is missing in modern RnB.
Sonically, the mixing and mastering of the project pushes forward the “real” factor more, sounding more natural and “warm” than most of today’s records. Ultimately, #TTLO has the feel of a traditional and timeless
classic RnB record. It’s been a minute since we’ve heard human and authentic RnB. After hearing this album, Rico Love reminds us that just like us, he’s the perfect imperfection. Make sure to Turn The Lights On and buy it via iTunes here.
