OutKast’s Classic ‘ATLiens’ Album Turns 19 Today

19 years ago today, OutKast dropped their second album. In 1996, a time when East Coast vs West Coast beef dominated news, the eclectic duo from Atlanta represented the South by releasing a classic album. Big Boi and Andre 3000 dropped ATLiens on August 27th, 1996 under LaFace/Arista/RCA.

ATLiens featured three fan favorite singles, “Elevators (Me & You),” “ATLiens,” and “Jazzy Belle.” Sonically, it introduced a sound without samples and the first time Big Boi and 3 Stacks tried their hand at producing. It is certified over 2x platinum by the RIAA and many hip-hop critics consider the LP one of the best albums in hip-hop history.
