Nas Awarded W.E.B. DuBois Medal at Harvard University

Nas can add another plaque to his well decorated wall of awards. The artist was recently given the coveted W.E.B. Du Bois Medal for his services in the music industry. The Queens born emcee became the first rapper ever receive the award. This is a huge accomplishment for Nas and the world of Hip Hop! He accepted the achievement alongside U.S. Attorney General Eric H. Holder at Harvard on Monday.

The W.E.B. Du Bois Medal is the highest honor Harvard University awards in the field of African and African-American Studies. He had this to say about the event on Twitter: “These are the things the kids need to see. This is a light I want on me. I hope that I can be a great role model for those kids…you can be more than the typical image of rap.” Congratulations to Nas and all the other recipients of this awesome award!
