In just five seasons, Cam Newton was able to become a Super Bowl quarterback. With a bevy of detractors taking swings at his potential downfall dating back to his 2011 Draft Day selection, he has proven all of them wrong. Of course, some of his pundits didn’t see the talent Carolina and others saw in the elusive quarterback. Of course, Twitter was able to dig up some tweets from some very notable sports journalists who once slammed Cam and called for his downfall.
In 2010, Matt Miller said the following on his Twitter: “to answer a question that’s been blowing up my inbox: Cam Newton is not an NFL QB. At all. Great athlete. Heisman contender. That’s all.”
CBS’ Pete Prisco pondered on the magic of Christian Ponder and not Cam Newton. “After breaking down Christian Ponder and Cam Newton on tape, I would take Ponder over Newton. That’s just me.”
Lastly, how can we forget about the great Skip Bayless.
“Long term give me Josh Freeman over Cam. Better leader, more consistent passer, more clutch, more poised under fire, more careful with ball.”
Guess who tried to clear things up? NFL Draft Scout, Matt Miller.
“Hi. Welcome to my page. I was wrong about Cam Newton in October 2010. I’ve been wrong so many other times too. Thanks for sharing.” He wasn’t done there. “I’m sure none of you care…but Cam ended up in my Top 10 for 2011 draft and was my #1 pick in the mock. But go ahead with old tweets. ” Let’s see if Cam can punctuate his efforts with a Super Bowl ring. Please make sure to SHARE with your friends.
