It’s been 4 years since the tragic death of hip hop’s beloved Heavy D, and his loss has been a hard one on the culture. While he was keeping things more low key with his music career leading up to his death, it’s still been a hard goodbye for the community to face, as he has paved the way for a lot of artists and trends to set off. From embracing his overweight size back in the 80’s and 90’s, to his choreography in videos, along with his unique styles, hip hop stars of today are still taking a few pages out of his book.

Heavy D came hard on the music scene with his hit songs, “Now That We Found Love,” and “Nuttin’ But Love,” as well as “The Overweight Lovers In The House.” Sporting some shiny suits, as well as some wild colorful styles throughout his videos, the rapper had a style sense that was off the chains. Being that he embraced his bigger size in his name, future artists were able to feel confident about their own bodies, such as Big Pun and Fat Joe. Heavy D will be missed, but he won’t be forgotten.
