The rapper's legal troubles continue
Young Thug was arrested over the weekend on drug-related charges.
According to TMZ the rapper was hit with a charge for marijuana possession and another for having overly tinted windows. The rapper was booked by the Brookhaven Police Department. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 27.
Young Thug has faced quite a bit of legal trouble this year, including other arrests involving his window tints. However, nothing’s stuck to the rapper behind last year’s impressive album Jeffery and this year’s collection of genre experiments Thugger Girls. A 2015 raid seemed to spell trouble for the rapper, as police found all manner of illegal weapons and drugs in his Sandy Springs home during the search.
However, the case fell apart because of the authorities own mistakes. Turns out they hadn’t acquired a proper search warrant to bust into Thugga’s home and the case was thrown out. Several other incidents have failed to play out into larger charges. While he was charged with making terroristic threats toward a security guard and allegedly slapping a woman outside of an Atlanta nightclub, both cases fell apart for lack of evidence.
Everything from his legal history to his nebulous and drifting delivery seems to give the impression that Thug floats through the world. He’s operating on another plane and even the police can’t bring him down.
If you needed further evidence that Thug is playing 3-D chess in a checkers world, just take a look at his video for “Wyclef Jean.” The innovative video — which details a video shoot from Hell while the single plays over top of it — is just another example of Thug’s insane winning streak. Only the rapper behind “The Blanguage” could not show up to a music video shoot and have it become one of the most interesting music videos of the decade.
That oddness was recognized by the MTV VMAs. The video won the Moonman for Best Editing and — true to form — Young Thug wasn’t there to accept it. In fact, no one on his team even told him that he won. He found out after the awards show was over and tweeted about his confusion.
After a while, Young Thug did accept the award in his own way. He posted a picture of his award to Instagram and thanked his parents in his out-of-this-world way.
“I MUST THANK GOD FIRST,” he wrote underneath the award for the video that he had nothing to do with. “I wanna thank my dad for nutting in my mom, and I wanna thank my mom for carrying and hav’N me.”
What Do You Think?
What do you think? Is this the charge that finally sticks to Young Thug? Or will he continue to skate on the way he always has? Before you answer, give another watch to “Wyclef Jean” up top and marvel over the fact that Young Thug made the best video of his career by not showing up (and shooting some handheld footage of himself eating Cheetos).
