Zika is getting out of hand
The Zika virus is becoming a very powerful medical epidemic in South America, and it’s a big concern to residents everywhere. While there have been thousands of cases in plenty of countries that are south of the border, there’s even been a few here in the United States. Now, it looks like the virus is starting to affect us in more personal ways, as a major dancehall artist has contracted it.
Beenie Man mysteriously pulled out of OVO Fest in Toronto
The dancehall star was slated to perform at OVO Fest in Toronto this past weekend, where he would have been on a lineup with Machel Montano. The show was set to take place during Caribana, and on the beach, but fans got an alert that Beenie Man pulled out unexpectedly a week before the concert.
He revealed later that he contracted the Zika virus
While fans wondered why the Jamaican star was no longer going to perform, he finally revealed the tragic news on Instagram. Beenie contracted the Zika virus, and had to stay home in order to receive proper treatment. He had to go through a series of blood tests, prescription medications, and injections in order to get back to better health.
He is currently in the process of recovery
Those who suffer from the virus are said to experience many intense cold symptoms which include mild fever, skin rash, conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pain, malaise or headache. The symptoms typically last between two to seven days, but are a huge threat to pregnant women. Studies have shown that the virus can cause major birth defects in newborns.
