Born a Star
Proving that Cardi B has always been a star in the making, a video of young Belcalis Almanzar performing Lady GaGa’s “Bad Romance” has surfaced. In the grainy clip, the Invasion of Privacy rapper can be seen hitting all the right notes at her high school’s talent show.
Though the video is nearly 10 years old, Bardi impressed everyone from fans to Lady Gaga herself.
Sing It Loud
Wearing an all red fit and black heels, Cardi worked the stage singing Lady Gaga’s 2009 hit. The video, which was taken in 2009, is a full two minutes and twenty seconds of Cardi and her back up dancers making the crowd scream.
When the “Bad Romance” singer herself came across the video, she couldn’t help but show love. “I LIVE,” Gaga tweeted, mentioning Cardi. She added a flame, a heart and a praising hands emoji for flare.
Minutes later, Gaga recited some of Cardi’s lyrics in a tweet, posting, “Fall down 9 times but i get up 10! @iamcardib SPEAK WOMEN.”
Fans, of course, fawned over it. “F**king love it lol she was meant to perform,” a Twitter user wrote. “She was obviously born to be a star,” posted a user.
As one put it: “That was really really good for a high school student with no proper training. This shows Cardis true potential in being very versatile and diverse with music, Cardi is here to stay.”
Some even called for the two to work together. “GAGA COLEB WHIT HER,” said a fan. “If @ladygaga @iamcardib collaborated and did a collaboration tour that was just as wildin out as Gagas Monster Ball and ArtRave, I would totally die. Can this please be a thing that happens?” chimed in another.
Superstar Bardi is doing well. Not only is the mommy-to-be’s latest album No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts, but she’s also in the midst of launching her own clothing line with Fashion Nova.
Cardi announced the new project, that’s sure to make her lots of “shmoney,” on Instagram earlier this month (April 9). “I have designed, and I’m still designing, my very own fashion line with Fashion Nova,” Cardi said in a video.
The artist didn’t give many details on the upcoming release, but she did say that Fashion Nova’s team is filled with “the greatest people.” “They are giving me good quality, everything, for my fall collection. And I’m so excited to share with y’all,” she continued.
The rapper added that she’s “excited” to see buyers dressed “very fashionably.” She ended the announcement saying, “Let’s wait for the fall.”
On numerous occasions, Cardi has spoke highly of Fashion Nova, shouting the retailer out in interviews and on social media.
She even wore the brand’s jeans to the 2018 NBA All-Star Game, which she showed off in an Instagram video. Captioned “pulling up to the game in my @fashionnova!!!!” — referencing the star-studded event held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles — the star shared how “rich people” like herself stay well-endowed. “Hello there minons,” she began in a joking tone. “You wanna know how rich people like me stay rich? By staying on a budget.” Sticking out a leg for the camera, she added, “These pants right here are Fashion Nova.”
In January, during an interview with Julie Adenuga on Beats 1, Cardi shined some light on Fashion Nova again, comparing it to higher end brands. “You wanna know something, Fashion Nova is one of the only thing(s) that just fits my body. These high-end designers I love them but, none of their jeans fit this a**,” she shared. “None of them.”
