Earlier this week, Us Weekly exclusively reported that Usher and his wife-of-two-years are getting a divorce. The couple, who started dating back in 2009, broke the news as a unit, releasing one statement about the split. In the written announcement, the “My Boo” singer, 39, and Grace Miguel, 48, told the public that the decision was mutual and that they’ll remain friends.
Breaking the News
The couple has reportedly been separated for months. Solidifying the end of their streak of nearly 10 years together, Usher and Miguel have chosen to move on to the “next phases” of their life journeys apart from each other.
“After much thought and consideration we have mutually decided to separate as a couple,” the duo began their joint statement. “We remain deeply connected, loving friends who will continue supporting each other through the next phases of our lives. The enormous amount of love and respect that we have for each other will only increase as we move forward.”
“Praying for you I love you and God is with you! Keep your head up babe,” wrote a fan on Instagram. “One of my fav artist!”
Another added, “I’m so sorry to hear about your marriage Usher 😞😞, I love you so much, but I know it must be hard. I’m here for you though.”
While fans have showered the singer with support, wishing him the very best, there’s a growing buzz about the reason for the divorce. Unfortunately, there is no confirmed word on exactly what lead to Usher and Miguel’s split. It seems that the couple who married quietly shall also divorce quietly.
Usher proposed to Miguel, who was his manager at the time, at the beginning of 2015. That same year, they eloped and honeymooned in Cuba.
“I have an incredible partner and manager,” Usher said during an interview with Billboard a year before his elopement. “She has helped me through some of the hardest times in my life and my career. She’s someone who’s been able to support and understand all of who I am. Not just as a dancer or as a performer or as a singer, but as a humanitarian and a business man and as a person.”
Ah… All’s well that ends well. Usher seems excited to be crossing over into a new chapter. The singer recently posted photos of himself getting a new tattoo, captioning the shots, “new era // new ink.”
For his “new ink,” Usher linked with celebrity tattoo artist Brian Woo, professionally known as Dr. Woo, in Woo’s studio at the Hollywood Hotel. (Dr. Woo has worked with the likes of Zoë Kravitz, Drake, Miley Cyrus and model Cara Delevingne.)
Usher opted for a version of the Eye of Providence, hand drawn by him. In its original form, the symbol represents the eye of God watching over humanity, but Instagram users took the tattoo to mean something else entirely. Several users tossed the idea of the Illuminati being the inspiration for the tattoo around in Usher’s comments.
“Illuminati,” simply commented several users. “That tattoo is illuminati as HECK,” wrote another.
Though some didn’t mind. Supporting Usher’s way of coping and moving forward, one fan commented, “Wow Ursh….. That’s a really awesome tat… I see your third eye must be open too… I love it!!!”
