He knew what he was doing
T.I. isn’t exactly known for keeping his thoughts to himself. He’s weighed in on just about everything from Wendy Williams’ empire of hot goss to the President of the United States. But those are easy targets who will likely be just as disliked by his fans as they are by him. What happens when T.I. is asked to give his opinion on one of the biggest legends in the history of hip-hop? Would he toe the line?
Tip landed in somewhat warm water after he was asked to give his opinion on some of Tupac’s bars. BET had him on Rate The Bars, giving a rating for lines from everyone from Tupac to Iggy Azalea on a scale of 1 to 4 (classic scale).
First, T.I. read some lines from Tupac’s song “Something Wicked.”
Attackin’ the packs, I’m kickin’ the facts for stacks to rap
And those that max, relax and let the blacks get jacks
I’m gettin’ taxed, my packs is packed with angry blacks
Having read this, T.I. dropped the dreaded 1 rating on Pac’s ghost and a nation of old heads cried out. T.I. took points away from the late legend for being a bit too “moon in June” for his tastes.
“I gave it a one because, you know. ‘Rat, cat, dog, fog, run, fun’… I’m done,” he explained.
The opinion might not have rankled if he didn’t give a higher rating to lines from Iggy Azalea’s song “Switch.” His justification was a little less in-depth here, giving the song a 2.5 because Iggy “rhymes and it’s talking about things.”
His highest rating went to fellow Atlantan and all-alone flat earther B.O.B. for some lines from the track “E.T.” He gave the lines a perfect rating of 4.

It’s not the first time that T.I. has gone to bat for newer rappers at the expense of the older generation. After 21 Savage took shots at an older generation of rappers who like to pooh-pooh the Soundcloud wave, T.I. stood in solidarity with the young Atlantan on his Instagram.
“lil bro speaking real truth tho. The fact of the matter is… There’s been good, bad, great, mediocre artists,&otherwise in EVERY generation …. Even ours(2000s) , The Founding era (80s) & the golden era of the 90s. They’re not the only generation to make ‘user music’ either. Can anyone remember a Lil album called ‘The Chronic’? Or hit Recs like ‘Sippin on some Sizzurp’…. Regardless of the subject matter…This is THEY TIME. Couldn’t nobody tell us how to run ours,or make us sound how they thought we should… Live ya life & do ya stuff young’n. Just bare with us,&try to understand …. y’all n**gaz kinda different & take some getting used to. As the elders gotta understand they’re SUCCESS JUSTIFIES the CHANGE. The Numbers DONT LIE!!! Can’t hate on that“
Check out the video from BET up top. What do you think? Is T.I. qualified to make statements about what’s a quality line and what isn’t? Should he be a go-to resource for ratings of quality?
