These rappers are in it for the long haul
The only number lower than celebrity marriage success rate is the average number of days your faves remain married. Don’t worry though — in hip-hop there are a few people who have managed to beat the odds and make it work.
After the marriage of newly sober Gucci Mane and his lovely wife Keyshia Ka’oir, we’re hoping to spread some of that good juju around. We want the Wopsters to be around for a long long time. Not to mention, Cardi B and Offset would certainly appreciate the blessings (even if they don’t really need it).
So, if any of hip-hop’s recently or soon-to-be betrothed couples are looking for advice on how to keep it going for the long haul, they could do worse than looking that these happy pairs for guidance. Here are hip-hops most stable and loving marriages!
Big Boi & Sherlita Patton
Big Boi may have been the promiscuous half of the “Playa & the Poet” marketing line, he’s been in a committed relationship for almost all of OutKast’s existence.
Andre 3000 explained how their actual personalities and dating lives are wildly different than the public perception in a recent interview with GQ:
“Big Boi, has always been on it. He’s sharp. He always knew the right decisions. He got into a real relationship really early. Right before our second album, he had a kid, and he and the girl stayed together, and they’re married now. I did the opposite. I’m all over the place. I never went on real dates. I don’t want to meet anybody’s parents. Like, I’m a f*cking rapper.”
Big and Sherlita have been married since 2002 and have two children together.
Dr Dre & Nicole Young
Dr. Dre’s history with women was… murky at best before he met Nicole Young. The allegedly violent and licentious Doctor settled down in 1996 and they pair have been inseparable ever since.
Papoose & Remy Ma
This pair has stuck together even as their stars have waned. Papoose has had Remy Ma’s back even as she takes on established New York heavyweights in out-of-the-blue beefs, and Remy Ma probably still spins “Alphabetical Slaughter” nine years in.
