T.I. takes the high road
T.I. posted a less-than-flattering image of Wendy Williams to his Instagram. For most folks, the image would be a chance to roast someone who makes a living off of saying mean things about other people, but T.I. decided to take the high road and kill Williams with kindness.
Instead of bodying the gossipy host, T.I. decided to take his finger off the trigger. He granted the host mercy in the hope that she would think about what he did the next time she wants to tear into someone.
“k now as much shit as this sister talk about people… (Myself included) I know what y’all expect. But I’m not gon do the obvious & fye her ass up. NOPE!!! I’m gon be respectful because regardless of her flaws she’s still a independent black business woman that’s had to fight her way through life to get where she is. JUST LIKE THE PEOPLE SHE JUDGES DAILY!!!” he wrote on Instagram. “But I’m gon try something new & different this time. Let’s see if the power of mercy moves her heart to not be so malicious & vindictive in the future when she’s speaking on the lives of other strangers when they’re going through their own PERSONAL tough times. That’s my approach… let’s see. 🤔”
T.I. has become a master of the colorful Instagram rant. And rest assured, he’s not always so willing to turn the other cheek. Whether it’s President Donald Trump or megachurch pastor Joel Osteen, T.I. has used the platform to tear down whoever he sees is not fulfilling the duties of their job in the past.
He jumped on Osteen after it was reported that he was keeping his basketball arena-sized church closed as Houstonians fled the waters from Hurricane Harvey. Though Osteen eventually opened the church, T.I.’s rebuke still stings.
“This is why people (like me) don’t trust the mega churches,” he wrote. “How can someone (especially a so called man of God) make 70+Ms a yr TAX FREE from citizens of a city that’s now in distress & in dyer need of food water & shelter NOT OPEN THE DOORS OF GODs HOUSE (supposedly) to help those in need?
“@joelosteen YOU SIR ARE A FRAUD!!!! Ministers, preachers, pastors, reverends are all supposed to be SERVANTS sent here to do the LORDS work. Not just sitting back in comfort watching as satin has his way!!!! FOH!!! We CANNOT AFFORD to continue to just go & give our money away to people who pose as ‘Preachers’ or their BIG lavish MEGA CHURCHES WITHOUT HOLDING THEM ACCOUNTABLE WHEN WE NEED THEM!!!!! Tithing is selfless acts of kindness & what you do for OTHERS. Stop giving y’all money to these LIKE THEY GON TURN YOUR BREAD OVER TO GOD!!!! N*gga please. (sic)”
Osteen responded to the controversy the next day:
“I think sometimes social media can be very powerful and it can create this false narrative, but if you’re sitting in another state and you’re not here — I mean, my niece was stranded right across the street from this building with nowhere to go. This building was one foot from flooding. If we didn’t have our floodgates, it would have flooded,” Osteen said on Today.
“I don’t know if it’s unfounded but I think if people were here they’d realize there were safety issues, this building had flooded before, and so we were just being precautious (sic) but the main thing is the city didn’t ask us to become a shelter then,” he added.
