Suge Knight has been grabbing huge amounts of headlines lately, but probably not for the reasons he’d like to. He’s in the midst of a legal repercussions after he fatally ran over Terry Carter.
As this trial has continued to unfold, the truth has become even more confusing. Suge has continued to roll out a string of baffling defense strategies, including throwing some accusations of his own around. The most prominent of these? That a critical point of his action is the fact that Dr. Dre has had it out for him for years.
Yes, Suge is claiming that Dr. Dre paid a high price to put a hit on him — and that’s only the beginning of his complicated allegations.
Suge Knight’s murder trial presented potential consequences for killing a man by fatally hitting him with a car. Since then, he has made serious allegations against Dr. Dre — specifically, that Dre paid to have Suge Knight killed.
Last october, Suge Knight issued a lawsuit for $300 million, claiming that Dr. Dre attempted to get Suge murdered so that he wouldn’t have to pay money owed.
The vehicular homicide case against Suge Knight was filed against Suge, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and Universal Music by Lilian Carter, the widow of the deceased Terry Carter. Terry was run over and killed by Suge Knight’s truck while Straight Outta Compton was being filmed.
“Marion ‘Suge’ Knight’s murder trial has been shrouded in much mystery. This cross complaint reveals why,” Knight’s attourney wrote, according to The Guardian. Suge Knight is claiming that the reason he ran over Terry Carter is because he was trying to evade a man who was paid to kill him by Dr. Dre. Similarly, he claims that a gun attack at a Hollywood Club back in 2014 was planned by Dr. Dre as a previous attempt on his life.
So why would Dr. Dre want to kill Suge Knight? According to Knight, it’s because Dr. Dre agreed to a lifetime management arrangement that would give 30% of his earnings to Suge Knight for the rest of his career. Knight claims that Dr. Dre wanted to have him killed instead of paying the fee.
“Given that Dre has had zero interaction with Suge since leaving Death Row Records in 1996, we hope that Suge’s lawyer has lots of malicious-prosecution insurance,” Dr. Dre’s lawyer said according to Rolling Stone.
Now, Suge Knight has come forward with even more claims about this ongoing suit, as reported boy TMZ.
New legal documents that the outlet procured reveal that Suge Knight has claimed that he was shown a check for $20,0000 that Dr. Dre wrote for a man named Dwayne Johnson. He claims that this was “blood money” Dr. Dre paid in order to have him killed on the same day that he ran over Terry Carter.
In the legal documents. Knight even claims that Dwayne Johnson revealed that the $20,000 was partial payment for “Dwayne Johnson to participate in my murder,” according to TMZ.
According to the outlet, Suge Knight is essentially using the fact that he feared for his life as an explanation as to why he may have run over Terry Carter.
As for Dr. Dre’s response? According to TMZ, his lawyers have called Suge Knight’s allegations “absurd.”
