Shyne frequently gets used as a cautionary tale. The one-time New York rap saviour is brought up by old heads who want to talk about what might have been and squandered potential. While we weren’t looking though, Shyne went and made a great life for himself.
The rapper and his wife just brought a daughter into the world, and you can tell from his ecstatic Instagram posts that he isn’t interested in any timeline but this one.
“Welcome our princess Naomi 💗💗💗,” he wrote alongside an Instagram photo of himself holding his newborn baby girl. “Thank the Creator of the universe for delivering you to us🙏🏾
Love at first sight😍😍😍1•9•18.”
For those who might not remember, Shyne was one of the buzziest rappers of the late ‘90s. He was the latest in a long line of people scheduled to bring New York back. Much like Bobby Shmurda after him, Shyne’s chance to go to the next level was ruined when he caught a case.
The NY native was hanging around a nightclub when things got a little too real. A fight broke out and the rapper, who was all of 21-years-old, pulled out a gun. He fired several times into a crowd, and three people were injured.
The rapper was charged with possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment. He was sentenced to 10 years and went to prison in 2001. He served less than the full sentence and was released in 2009. Upon his release, he was deported to Belize, where he currently lives with his wife and (as of yesterday) little Naomi.
Shyne has clearly made the decision to move away from rapping. He’s turned over a new leaf and seems content with his life. On the other hand, Shmurda is still in prison and seems determined to maintain his innocence and return to rapping on the way out.
He told XXL that he was set up and not guilty of the litany of charges against him:
“A witness came and said they didn’t recognize anybody. They got cops lying on the stand. They dismissed my case in Brooklyn and brought it back to Manhattan. So we got the grand jury from Manhattan and I’m trying to get the grand jury from Brooklyn because the cop testified twice and told two stories, but the judge keeps denying the motion. They just violating our rights, and then I look at them like how you want people to follow the law and y’all not even following y’all own laws?”
Bobby added that he was charged because of who he was and not what he did.
“They’re just doing this because I’m Bobby Shmurda and this is supposed to be a political case and all types of crazy sh*t. I want people to pay attention because I want them to say what evidence they have on me,” he stated. “I want them to put it out there because there’s no evidence whatsoever. They don’t have me conspiring to murder nobody, no guns, no fingerprints, none of my DNA is on the guns. This sh*t is crazy.”
His mother backed up her son’s version of events. “I’m feeling like I’m in limbo. I just don’t know what’s going on and, sadly enough, I feel like my son is being mistreated,” she said.
“I feel like you have probable cause to lock them up, they’re innocent until proven guilty but I just wish that they would treat him like Ackquille Pollard [and not Bobby Shmurda],” she continued. “I just feel like it’s a Bobby Shmurda cause, and that’s not fair. Then, I have only two sons and both of them are involved so it’s very strenuous.”
Hopefully some sort of happiness awaits Bobby on the outside. For now, we can look to Shyne for inspiration. Check out the photo up top and be sure to SHARE this article.
