Safaree has been busy. The rapper, who’s enjoying the release of his latest single “Hunnid,” did an interview with The Casey Crew earlier this week. Chatting with DJ Envy and his wife Gia Casey, Safaree talked about his new track, his manhood sending the internet into a frenzy, and… Nicki Minaj.
Though Safaree and Nicki broke up nearly four years ago, the 12-year relationship still interests fans. According to this latest revelation, the couple’s split was a good thing.
During Nicki and Safaree’s relationship, there’s no denying that she was the celebrity while he was constantly overshadowed and overlooked. Now that he is dating other women, the roles have reversed, with him being the star. When asked how that role reversal felt, the rapper was undeniably candid.
“I feel like with me and her [Nicki], it’s like… We rolled into it together. So, it was almost like… I ended up being trained to be that kind of person,” he began, referencing his tendency to support Nicki from behind the curtain rather than push himself into the spotlight. “Because, in the beginning, it’s like, ‘Iight, Lil Wayne wanna holla at you? Ima shut my mouth, and let’s see where this is gonna go.'”
Recognizing that he couldn’t offer Nicki the same opportunities and advancements as Wayne, Safaree said he choose to “be supportive.” “Towards the end… That’s when I kinda just took a step back and was just like, ‘Yo, this isn’t even really like a relationship anymore. What we had in the beginning is gone.'”
“Our entire life was business,” he added.
As the interview went on, Safaree revealed that him and Nicki’s fighting was simply out of hand. “I didn’t really have a life outside of that,” he said. “I was really comfortable, but then the fights and stuff, it was getting too crazy. I was like, ‘You know what? I don’t wanna go to jail, I don’t wanna go to the hospital.'”
“I’m not gonna have hands put on me and the verbal—it takes a while to get over that,” he went on.
This insight comes after the 36-year-old Brooklyn native became the latest celeb to have his privacy invaded, leading to private pictures/videos leaking on to the internet. As usual, social media users jumped into a discussion about the most recent leak, but some seemed particularly impressed this go-round.
“Suddenly #safaree music not sounding to bad,” wrote Twitter user JilianeF_, followed by a meme of a women goofily vibing to music. “Safari’s d**k was sent straight from Wakanda. #Safaree,” tweeted user BellMilic, referencing the newly released movie Black Panther.
