Gone too soon
They say only the good die young. When you consider the amount of talented artists that have left this earth, I’d have to agree. Hip hop has had too many fallen soldiers over the years and most of their deaths have been under tragic circumstances. Whether it be from shootings, overdoses, accidents, hip hop community.
RIP to this list of extraordinary artists who have not only left us, but also some extraordinary legacies behind. Let’s take a moment to remember these hip hop icons.
September 7, 1996 is a day that will go down in hip hop history. This is the day that Tupac Shakur was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting at an intersection in Las Vegas. He was hit in the chest, pelvis, right hand and thigh, and one of the rounds penetrated his right lung. Even after being shot multiple times he didn’t pass until six days later.
There are conspiracies surrounding Tupac’s death that have people believing he is still alive today. His shooter has never been brought to justice.
The Notorious B.I.G.
Six months after Tupac Shakur was killed, Notorious B.I.G., aka Biggie Smalls, was also in a drive by shooting, in Los Angeles. Like Tupac, Biggie never got justice either. His murder is said to be part of the East Coast-West Coast rap rivalry.
In 1995 N.W.A. rapper Eazy-E went to the hospital with what he figured was only an asthma issue. To everyone’s surprise, he was diagnosed with AIDS. Eazy died in under a month. Pretty much everyone has seen Straight Outta Compton, but if you haven’t, add it to your list.
