He was 21
Rihanna’s 21-year-old cousin was gunned down near his home in Barbados on Boxing Day.
Sky News reports that Tavon Kaiseen Alleyne was walking near his home in St Michael around 7 p.m. when a man approached him, shot him several times and then fled.
No suspects have been named but a grief-stricken Rihanna posted a photo of herself and her cousin to Instagram along with a message of remembrance.
“RIP cousin,” she wrote. “Can’t believe it was just last night that I held you in my arms! never thought that would be the last time I felt the warmth in your body!!! Love you always man!”
A Quiet Year
Rihanna hasn’t released much in the way of new music in 2017, so ― beyond her contribution on the DJ Khaled hit “Wild Thoughts” ― Rihanna-related news has largely been defined by other people. For example, Rihanna ended up back in the headlines after Chris Brown went into disturbing detail about their fateful fight on the night of the Grammys.
Brown revealed that the fight stemmed from his own infidelity, adding that the actual altercation began after Rihanna and Brown ran into a woman that Brown had slept with.
“She hated me after that,” he said about Rihanna finding out that Brown had cheated on her. “I tried everything. She didn’t care. She just didn’t trust me after that. From there, it just went downhill because there were too many verbal fights, physical fights as well. Mutual sides.”
Of the actual fight, Brown said it started when Rihanna kicked him.
“I remember she tried to kick me,” he said . “It was just her being upset, but then I really hit her with a closed fist. I punched her. I busted her lip. When I saw it, I was in shock. I was like, ‘F**k, why the hell did I hit her?’”
Brown said that she spit blood from her split lip into his face.
“So from there, she spits blood in my face and I was like ‘Yo!’” he said. “It enraged me more.”
“It was a real fight in a car,” he added. “We were driving in the street so I am like ‘Yo, we tripping. What the f**k? What are we doing?’”
Brown said that after the fight he felt “like a f**Iking monster.”

Back in the present, Rihanna is using the tragedy that just befell her to call for an end to gun violence. She closed her Instagram post with an anti-violence hashtag in the hopes that her loss will help spur others to move forward with a solution to gun-related deaths and injuries.
