When reports of R. Kelly running a cult rang through the hip-hop-sphere, reactions were mixed to say the least. While some wrote the stories off as fake news, it became harder and harder for people to ignore as allegations kept emerging.
Kelly’s public image is under siege again, as his ex-wife, Andrea Kelly, has come forward with a heart-wrenching story of abuse. According to her, the singer’s treatment led her to nearly commit suicide. What saved her was a conversation with God.

Nearly one year ago, July 2017, whispers that R. Kelly was holding women against their will hit the internet. In a report from BuzzFeed, relatives of a women who Kelly was allegedly holding opened up to the masses. According to J. and Tim, the parents of the female, Kelly met their daughter in 2015 backstage at a concert in Atlanta. Afterwards he invited the girl to one of his performances at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California.
“When we got to go backstage with R. Kelly, we stayed there over two hours,” said J, the mother. “One-on-one with just me and my daughter and him. We went back to talk about the music. He listened to her CD. He was going to help her with her CD, and I was really impressed with him at first, because I have always been an R. Kelly fan.”
