Meek Mill's cousin may have been shot
Meek Mill’s cousin and Dreamchasers member Omelly has reportedly been shot in North Camden, N.J. The shooting was reported by gossip website and popular Instagram account The Shade Room on Monday.
“#TSRTakeAMoment: We are receiving reports that #DreamChasers rapper #Omelly was shot today in North Camden, NJ and that he was taken to #CopperUniversityHealthCare,” they wrote. “We will keep you updated on this story.”
While there are very few details about the shooting, Omelly seems to be fine and in good spirits. He posted a photo of himself to his Instagram this morning that appeared to show him doing well. If the photo caption can be believed, Omelly has been released from the hospital and he’s in good health.
“Took it & smiled special thanks to everyone for the support 💯💯💯💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾 #DC4LIFE #winsandlosses#RIPLILSNUPE,” he wrote.
While Omelly didn’t share any further details, his tone and thanks indicate that he probably was shot on Monday. Police have yet to share any information about the shooting as well
Meek Mill hasn’t commented on the shooting, choosing instead to share a short video of his performance in Philly’s NOTO nightclub. The performance in the city’s largest club featured pyrotechnic bottles, jets of smoke and other stunning displays, the exact tonal opposite of the news that your cousin was shot. Surprisingly, his Twitter fingers have remained silent.
A Rollercoaster Year
The news comes on the tail-end of a very up-and-down period for Meek. While Wins & Losses has earned him critical acclaim and Jay-Z brought him out to an ecstatic hometown crowd at this weekend’s Made In America festival, the wins have been peppered between some pretty terrible moments. Meek was arrested last month after police used social media to show that he was recklessly driving dirt bikes and ATVs on streets in Harlem. On top of that the rapper was called out by internet personality Boonk, who threatened the rapper after he claimed that Meek Mill talked bad about him. Meek hasn’t responded to that, either, seemingly want to keep things positive.
A recent Instagram post shows Meek surrounded by fans with their middle fingers up.
“F*ck all bad vibes,” he wrote in the caption.
It makes sense that Meek wants to keep on the sunny side, given the year he’s had. He was trashed by legends like Uncle Luke and Trick Daddy. After Meek Mill tried to take credit for Miami’s flaunting sense of style in an interview, the Miami old heads came for Meek.
“Miami n***as are not followers… Don’t use my city or my n***as for character references,” Trick Daddy said. “I will get out of character. Do not f**k with me. Dirt bikes, Cuban links, and yachts? We cocaine cowboys, n***a. Ever since you lost your girl, you’ve been trippin’… As a matter of fact, your visa has expired. You owe my city an apology.”
Unkle Luke also jumped in to put Meek in his place. The 2 Live Crew member, famous DJ and columnist gave Mill a history lesson on Instagram.
“I’m the first to put jet skis in a video I OWN. First to put a yacht in a video I OWN, first to own a jet, first to put cars in a video, first to put girls on the beach in a video. I will stop here you get the point love your music but if you need a lesson on Miami hit me,” he said.
