Talent will only get people so far in life. The rest of the journey is all about actions and work ethic. While no one can deny that the Migos rappers are talented — as their latest album Culture II sits at the top of the Billboard Hot 200 — their tendency to butt heads with their fellow celebrities has gotten out of hand. During their short run in the spotlight (so far) they’ve had words with Joe Budden and Chris Brown, and now we can add another name to the list!
Following Quavo’s altercation with Eric da Jeweler on the weekend of the Grammys, the southern rapper is allegedly on the brink of being arrested. NYPD detectives claim to have enough evidence to take Quavo into custody for steeling Eric’s $30,000 chain.
Though Quavo has denied stealing the famed jeweler’s necklace, New York’s law enforcement contacted Drew Findling, Migos’ lawyer, to tell him that their evidence suggests differently. According to TMZ, an arrest has not been issued but will be soon.
However, Findling himself told the outlet that Quavo is innocent of all charges against him. The attorney hopes authorities think before they act, suggesting that NYPD and Manhattan DA’s office would be embarrassed if they try to arrest and prosecute Quavo.
“This is yet another example of a young African-American hip hop star potentially being treated unfairly by the criminal justice system,” Findling stated.
Neither Findling (nor Quavo) denied the physical fight that took place on the night of the alleged robbery. As the story goes, Eric — the self-proclaimed “Best Jeweler in the World” — ran into the “Beast” rapper in NYC at a Grammys after-party held at 1 Oak nightclub. When he attempted to collect the $10k Quavo reportedly owes him, words were exchanged. Besides Eric and Quavo, no one knows the details of that conversation, but it couldn’t have gone well because the exchange turned violent.
Before the night was over, Quavo and a still unidentified accomplice jumped Eric.
Eric left 1 Oak immediately afterwards, with minor facial injuries. As he was doing so, he noticed that his chain was missing. He filed a robbery report for the missing piece, which is surely how authorities linked the event to Quavo.
Before authorities called the rap trio’s lawyer to notify him of Quavo’s possible arrest, they requested to speak to each Migos member as well as the group’s manager.
There’s still no reports on whether or not the security footage has been reviewed.
