How do you get mad at a roller rink?
Trouble seems to follow Nipsey Hussle wherever he goes. It’s gotten to the point that Nipsey doesn’t even need to be in the building for things to kick off, so long as he’s sufficiently associated with the event.
That appears to be the case in a recent shooting that went down at his album release party, according to TMZ.
Nipsey threw a party on Saturday night for his new album Victory Lap at World on Wheels, a skating rink in Venice. All was going well at the Los Angeles entertainment center until around 11:30 p.m. That’s when the website reports that shots were fired in the parking lot.
The crowd panicked with several people reporting that they were on edge from recent news of mass shootings in places like Parkland, FL (and others just being appropriately allergic to gunfire).
One man was hit in the thigh, and police responded to the incident with a swarm of helicopters and officers. The shooter got away after the victim refused to cooperate with police questioning.
Nipsey was not on scene. He was across town performing with YG and planned to stop in after the show. Once word of gunshots reached his team, he decided to stay away.
The Opposite of the Point
It’s an ironic ending for a party around Victory Lap. Nipsey intended the album to be uplifting and inspirational. He described the purpose behind it in a recent interview with the Rap Radar podcast.
“Everybody is driven by what fuel? We are driven by inspiration. The money will pay for inspiration. People buy drugs to be inspired, to be stimulated. People pay for experiences to be inspired,” he said. “So, if you could put that in a bottle and know the strategy behind your creativity is not getting through an institution’s parameters like the radio, it’s to inspire. If you create an exchange between you and your fans like that, we simplify everything.”
All it’s inspired fans to do so far is fight. A recent party the rapper threw ended in a brawl that nearly swallowed up Hussle. He can be seen on a fan-shot video moving to break up a fight before all hell breaks loose and the crowd swarms.

Meanwhile, Nipsey’s been down to fight a bit himself. He recently called out a news reporter for trash-talking Diddy, saying that he wanted to catch him out.
“F**k the n**ga that was doubtin’ them on the news, woofin’ that s**t. We gon’ catch you and beat yo ass, n***a,” he threatened. “Got some homegirls for that b***h, too!” he said to TMZ.
The reporter, Henry Wofford, responded to the challenge and said that he’d bat Hussle around for charity.
“I saw you on @TMZ saying you’ll beat me down when you see me. Here’s your opportunity. I’m old school and only fight for a cause,” Wofford said. “Let’s raise money for the Black Community. We can box or go MMA style in a celebrity fight. Hug when it’s over. Let me know time and place!”
Ultimately, Wofford’s employer caught wind of the spectacle and forced him to back down and apologize, though it didn’t seem like Nipsey was truly interested in the fight.
