While people convicted of crimes against children are usually held in solitary confinement for their own safety, that isn’t the case with Jelani Maraj, Nicki Minaj’s older brother. The 39-year-old, who was convicted of sexually abusing his then-11-year-old step daughter, was in general popular when he was brutally jumped by his inmates.
A video of the attack is now circulating the internet.
“They got him.”
According to the Facebook user who shared the video this passed Saturday (Feb. 3), The Pinkprint rapper’s brother was undoubtedly the one under attack. Allegedly coming out of Nassau County jail, the clip ― which lasted less than a minute ― shows between four to six men ruthlessly jumping Maraj in a common area of the prison.
“They got him,” says a male voice from behind the camera. “They done hammerfished that n**ga.” The prison’s alarm is blaring in the background as the inmates kick and punch Maraj.
Even when Maraj ― who appeared to try to fight back ― was on the ground, his fellow inmates continued to throw hits. Unsurprisingly, no one jumped in to help him. The fight didn’t end until two or three guards made it there to control the situation. However, even then, it appeared that the beating against Maraj continued on for a little while longer.
Staying consistent, Nicki Minaj has not commented on nor appeared to react in any way to news of her brother’s attack.
The “MotorSport” rapper distanced herself from her older sibling in the middle of his criminal trial, and she has kept a safe distance away from him ever since. The only reports of Nicki interacting with Maraj (after she refused to take the stand on his behalf) was shortly after his sentencing.
About a week after Maraj was found guilty, the star quietly accompanied her mother to visit Maraj. Though, Nicki reportedly did not want to go see Jelani in prison. The “Anaconda” rapper found herself at Nassau County Jail only because her mother, Carol, hadn’t seen her son since the verdict.

Things were different at the onset of Maraj’s trial. Shortly after his superstar sister posted his $100,000 bond, rumors swirled that Nicki would take the stand to testify on her big brother’s behalf. Jelani’s lawyers put a lot of weight on that testimony, so much that the 38-year-old turned down his 15-year-to-life plea deal.
Though the district attorney’s office found Maraj’s DNA on the minor — and despite the fact that she was able to describe the abuse in “graphic detail” — Maraj’s lawyers claimed he was being framed as part of a scheme for money.
In the middle of the trail, reports broke that Nicki Minaj claimed Jacqueline Robinson, Jelani Maraj’s then-wife, offered to drop the charges if Nicki handed over $25 million. The “Super Bass” star was supposed to sit on the stand and tell jurors about that interaction with her brother’s wife of less than a year.
The defense, adamant that Maraj was innocent of all charges, appealed to the jurors, saying, “Why would [Robinson] lie and force her children to lie? I can give you 25 million reasons why.”
“An evil Jackie targeted him,” the lawyer added, “trying to get him to marry her, and then just four months after they were married, we have this.”
However, Nicki did not take the stand to defend her brother. Instead, she remained as far from him and his case as possible. Sound off in the comments with your thoughts and SHARE this article.
