It’s been one year and four months since the tragic death of Mac Miller. And while his fans are still in mourning, his legacy continues to live on. His family just announced that a new album featuring never-before-heard songs will be releasing soon.
Fans across the world are reeling with excitement after learning there’s new music from the late rapper. On Wednesday (Jan. 8), a message from Mac’s family appeared on his Instagram account, announcing a posthumous album will be dropping on January 17.
“Here we are. The act of having to write this at all feels surreal,” the statement began. “At the time of his passing, Malcolm was well into the process of recording his companion album to ‘Swimming,’ entitled ‘Circles.'”
The statement went on to reveal that Circles is the companion album to Mac Miller’s 2018 project, Swimming.
“This is a complicated process that has no right answer. No clear path,” the statement continued. “We simply know that it was important to Malcolm for the world to hear it.”
The family also revealed that record producer and composer Jon Brion was working with Mac on the project prior to the rapper’s death and that Brion “dedicated himself” completing the album.

The family concluded the message by saying, “We are left to imagine where Malcolm was going and to appreciate where he was. We hope you take the time to listen. The look on his face when everyone was listening said it all.”
Circles is slated to release on January 17, two days prior to what would have been Mac’s 28th birthday. Rest in peace!
We are all still shaken up by Mac Miller’s unfortunate death. However, we’re happy to know that justice is being served after prosecutors filed charges against the rapper’s drug dealer.
