A Legend of the Past
Mobb Deep was huge back in their prime. Just a few days ago, they were on tour entertaining people across the globe. Prodigy and Havoc were a pair that couldn’t be split up. They butt heads as any friends would, but they were still a great duo up until the last moment. Check out how the community and other rappers are taking the loss.
One half of Mobb Deep was lost today in Las Vegas, as TMZ reported. Albert “Prodigy” Johnson died at the age of 42 on Tuesday, June 20th, and it’s taken the hip-hop community by storm.
He was born in Hempstead, New York where he became a member of the rap duo Mobb Deep with his friend Havoc. The two were very successful, and they stayed active from 1989 all the way until now.
His publicist said that the rapper was hospitalized a few days ago in Las Vegas after one of Mobb Deep’s performances. At the time, he was dealing with complications that were being caused by a sickle cell anemia crisis. Most of Prodigy’s fans know that he’s had this disease since he was born, but he’s always found a way to fight through the troubles.
The publicist did add that the exact cause of his death hasn’t been determined at the time, but we can only assume it’s related to the disease.
The rapper was in Las Vegas over the past weekend performing for the “Art of Rap” tour. The tour included names like Ghostface Killah, Onyx, KRS-One, Ice-T and more. Mobb Deep performed on Saturday night, just before he was sent to the hospital.
The group had some huge hits back in the day, including songs like “Quiet Storm” and “Shook Ones.”
