When you think of Missy Elliott, you can’t help but to think of the titles: genius, greatness, and living legend. Since the 90s, and even before, Missy has made such an impact on the world, especially the hip-hop community. Now, MTV will honor the giving the rapper/singer/songwriter/dancer her just due with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Check out the announcement video at the end of the article!

It’s a good day for Missy Elliott, who just announced that she will be receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards. The legendary entertainer took to her Instagram account where she shared the great news. She wrote:
I am Humbly Grateful to be receiving the MichaelJacksonVideoVanguard Award😭🙏🏾❤️ I Thank my FANS “Supafriends” who fought diligently to see this day come🙏🏾 @KidFury @crissles who rooted for years!❤️I am crying right now so thankful 😭 I didn’t know if I would ever receive this but I want y’all to know I do not take it for Granted I am GRATEFUL @atlanticrecords @monascottyoung Thank you Dear God!!! @MTV @vmas am SO HUMBLED🙏🏾 #VA hometeam! two up two down❤️ lastly the WHOLE DANCE COMMUNITY❤️🙏🏾#ThrowItBack #ThrowItBack

Missy accompanied the caption with a video of herself as the VMAS moon man, floating with a flag in the shape of an “ME,” which represents Missy Elliott. MTV also posted the news to their IG account. “And your #VMA Video Vanguard Honoree is… the iconic 🌟 @missymisdemeanorelliott!!!!” the caption read under a video. In the video, the VMAS moon man’s outfit transforms into Missy’s infamous trash bag and intergalactic shades from the 1997 “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)” video.

Fans and celeb friends flocked to Missy’s comment section to congratulate her for such an honor. The VMAs account wrote, “Love you so much 💕 Congrats!” Solange Knowles came through to let Missy know she was gonna get the honor either way. “🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹(we was gone riot otherwise),” she wrote. Missy’s righthand man and legendary producer, Timbaland, left three trophy emojis under her post.
