He wasn't far from Death's Door
Macklemore has made it clear that he’s just here to entertain. He doesn’t want to take part in the drama that is so pervasive in the music community right now. He’s got positive vibes and love for all.
That good-natured spirit was put to the test when he was smashed into while driving his Mercedes around Washington state. The man who hit him was wasted and could have taken his life. Judging by these pictures, it was a very close call.
Just two days after rapper Macklemore released his second new single from the upcoming album Gemini entitled “Marmalade,” he came close to death. Even though he’s had his dealings with drug abuse (like so many musicians do), this wasn’t his fault whatsoever.
Macklemore was driving his Mercedes Benz Maybach in Langley, Washington at 11 PM on July 28. (Langley is a small island town an hour and a half drive north from Seattle.) Macklemore definitely didn’t expect to run into anyone on the roads, but fate would soon intervene on his drive.
A drunk driver was heading straight to Macklemore and his crew. The driver of the smaller Chevrolet truck swerved into Macklemore’s lane, as he couldn’t follow the curve he was rounding.
Safe and Sound
The front-end of the Maybach was smashed completely to bits, but Macklemore and his two buddies walked away with little to no injuries. The airbags had deployed and the interior looks completely unscathed, according to the new photos that surfaced from the crash scene. The drunk driver wasn’t quite as lucky…
The drunken man, whose identity has not been revealed, was not wearing his seatbelt. Upon impact, he smashed his head into the windshield of his car. He didn’t go through it, but he suffered head and facial injuries that left him bleeding profusely; blood was splattered on the windshield and dashboard. He was unconscious when the police arrived.
5 O’clock Somewhere
When he awoke from the crash, he asserted that he had only had a drink “a while back.” He was then asked how much he had to drink, and he answered “5 o’clock.” Clearly, the man was over the legal limit, and he was taken to the hospital where he was eventually arrested by the Washington State Police for DUI.
We hope that nothing comes between Macklemore and the release of his second solo album; Gemini drops on September 22. His first solo album was Language of My World which released way back in 2005.
