Wayne bailed on a headlining slot for a silly reason
Lil Wayne pulled out of a headlining slot in Columbia, SC’s Fall Ball festival after refusing to go through the venue’s security. Wayne was supposed to play a set inside Colonial Life Arena, but his set was called off when he refused to comply with the venue’s procedures. It’s unclear at this point exactly why the rapper refused to participate in the venue’s security check, but it turns out that reasons don’t change anything for the venue.
“The safety of its patrons, its performers and its staff members is and continues to be the number one priority for Colonial Life Arena,” the venue said in a statement released shortly after the show. “While we regret the artist’s decision not to perform, Colonial Life Arena is not willing to bypass its security standards and jeopardize the safety of its patrons, performers, or staff members.”
The venue offered refunds in this initial statement, saying that they would become available on Monday morning. However, it looks like the promoters are not willing to issue refunds. Every scheduled artist outside of Lil Wayne ― including 2 Chainz, Cardi B and Tory Lanez ― did perform.
“We are in discussions with the promoters and will continue to represent the interest of our patrons regarding refunds,” the venue told The Post & Courier.
On The Other Hand…
On the opposite end of the spectrum is 2 Chainz performance. While Lil Wayne was held back by his desire to not go through a security check, Tity 2 Necklace couldn’t be stopped from making it to the stage. Even though he broke his leg over the summer, Chainz performed from a bright pink wheelchair.
The move is also the exact opposite of a previous statement from Wayne’s camp. After he suffered another seizure, his manager Cortez Bryant admitted that there is almost nothing that could stop the rapper from working hard and getting on the stage.
“I tell him that all the time but I don’t think that’s gonna work, man,” Bryant said.. “He a workaholic. That’s what got him to where he is now man. He’s just [in] the studio all the time trying to make music, get through this situation and give his fans what they need.”
“He’s a epileptic, so that’s the reality of it. You know, so it’s something that we’re gonna have to deal with for the rest of his life and, you know, we’ll just make sure he’s popping meds and try to force him to get some rest, but sometimes he doesn’t do that. But it’s something that, it’s not gonna hinder us and stop us,” he said.
“It’s not going to stop us,” he added. “We’re not going to let a disease stop us.”
Bryant added that the disease is reality for Wayne and that his medical issues can’t force Weezy to pack it in.
“He’s an epileptic. It’s a disease that he has to deal with,” he said. “It’s reality that this might not be the last time you see Lil Wayne having a seizure.”
What do you think? Should fans get their money back? Or does the fact that Tory Lanez, 2 Chainz and Cardi B all performed mean that they don’t deserve refunds? Why do you think Wayne refused to be checked in the first place? Sound off in the comments and be sure to SHARE this article.
