Karrueche opened up in a talk show interview
Karrueche Tran revealed that she has a restraining order against Chris Brown during an appearance on The Wendy Williams Show today. Tran, who has testified previously that Brown punched her in the stomach and threw her down the stairs on separate occasions, said that she asked for the court order to protect herself from the singer that she dated for several years.
“It came to a point where I felt like I needed to protect my safety,” she told Williams, who immediately tried to joke about Brown throwing rocks at Tran’s window.
“That did happen before,” she said, “but we’re not going to go into detail about that.”
Tran also revealed that her relationship wasn’t always bad. She went into detail about the way in which they met, claiming that they casually fell in love with one another after meeting while Tran was at work.
“I met Chris, actually, on a styling job. I was a personal assistant to a stylist. That was the direction I was going in my career,” she said. “I was on this job. We met. You know, he did his whole charming thing. The base of our relationship started as us just being friends. It was work related. I didn’t have sex with him, anything like that. Then, you know, I got into my emotions and I fell in love with him.”
However, things obviously soured. Tran says that Brown seems to be respecting the order, as they have not encountered one another since she was granted it this summer.
“It’s so interesting. We have not recently in the past few months or whatever, we haven’t crossed paths,” she said.
Though the Brown story is going to follow Tran wherever she goes (being the reason that most of us learned her name), Tran said she’s trying to focus on her own career and accomplishments at the moment. Tran changed the subject to her work on the TV show Claws.
“I’m so into myself right now,” she told Williams. “I’m trying to self-invest with, you know, Claws and everything, I just want to keep that momentum going and just protect me and make sure I am on the right path.”
Nash’s First Choice
Claws showrunner Niecy Nash had Tran in mind for her part in the hit show from the beginning.
“With the part of Virginia, it was a very hard part to cast. I tested with a lot of women.[…] So I said, ‘Are you all familiar with Karrueche Tran?’” she explained in an interview with Ebony. ”Some of them were. Some of them were not. I said, ‘I think she may be an interesting choice for this. You should bring her in.’ The reason I said that was because I felt like meeting her in person; I could see some of the things in her personality that could really work for the role. You can be a public personality but still in some ways be very shy.”
Nash was right, as her choices pretty much always are when it comes to making good TV. Tran has received favorable reviews for her turn as Virginia.

Watch the interview up top and let us know what you think. Was Williams too light-hearted about a situation that was so bad Tran felt the need to get the courts involved? Or was the topic too heavy for daytime talk to begin with?
