That's a lot of coin!
Iggy Azalea may seem like she’s all over the place, but she actually hasn’t been doing too much in the last two years. Apparently, her hiatus from the music scene seems to be hurting her financially. She must be living a bit too “Fancy” instead of focusing on bringing home the bacon. New recently broke that the rapper is being dragged into the courtroom by the good folks at AmEx to answer for the many thousands of dollars in credit card debt. The question is can she get enough coin to pay it off now, or is she going to get her wages garnished? That is if she ever releases that second album to get wages to be garnished.
Seriously, how is Iggy going to get out of this one?
Taking a Break
Iggy Azalea released her first record The New Classic way back in 2014. She toured the world for that album, but she hasn’t done too much in the way of live performance since then. Instead, she decided to focus more on a career in television and the movies instead though nothing has really taken off for her like she thought it would.
Iggy announced in 2015 that she would soon be releasing her second album called Digital Distortion, but it has been delayed ever since. She said about the two-year wait for the album:
“[I] just needed to have some me time to get my life in order and process the changes that are happening in my private life. When I wrote [my album] I was about to get married… I don’t want to go and promote my album and get asked about my relationship that has just crumbled.”
She did release the songs “Mo Bounce” and “Switch” on March 24, 2017 and May 19, 2017, respectively, but apparently it’s just not even close to enough right now.
American Express has asked Iggy Azalea to meet them in court to discuss the $299,147.81 that she owes them. Her credit limit is $250,000, and she hasn’t tried to pay any of her debt down for two years — about the time that she stopped touring and releasing new tunes. They want all the money back now, and they want her to pay all the legal fees.
Iggy has clearly been living large. She’s been called out for spending tons of money on her unnatural-looking body and has admitted to a nose job and breast enlargement. (FYI she still claims that her big bottom is completely real.)
She definitely purchased a piece of art by Simone Rosenbauer featuring a white popsicle melting on a black background for $12,000 in January. Surely there are better choices she can be doing financially if she can afford that.
Iggy also has another reason to make some new music. It’s been reported that she’s currently dating her tour manager. Hopefully, he cares about her enough to book her some good-paying gigs that can help her knock that debt down by a few thousand bucks.
What’s coming up?
Maybe this little financial situation will help get Iggy back into the studio so that she can finish Digital Distortion and make some real money to pay her creditors.
