Gucci was nearly a goner
It’s been several months since Gucci Mane came back from jail leaner and cleaner. While some of his fans question his newfound lifestyle, that consists of a healthier diet and fresh mentality on life, many are jubilant to see one of Atlanta’s legends back on the rap scene. For Gucci, just being a free man is a relief, considering his life was once entangled in a web of crime, drama and drugs. According to Gucci, the latter nearly took everything he loved.
Drugs took a toll on Gucci
In an in-depth profile penned by The New York Times, Gucci candidly explained how drugs once crippled his life. “It’s been tough to be a Gucci fan,” he said. “It’s been tough to be a Gucci friend, a Gucci sibling, a Gucci girlfriend, or a Gucci partner. I done took people through a lot.”
Gucci says that he was drunk and high all the time
“In hindsight I see it for what it was: I was a drug addict… I was naive to the fact that I was numb,” he explained. It wasn’t until Gucci landed in prison most recently that he finally realized that his biggest vice had a strong grip on his life. From there, he watched his body suffer vicious bouts of withdrawal. “Your body just craving lean bad. Stomach tore up, can’t think straight. Just mad at the world. Temper so short, so violent, so aggressive. So just rude and toxic,” he said.
Self-help books aided Gucci during his intense struggle
Gucci credited self-help books written by Tony Robbins and Deepak Chopra in reshaping his outlook on life. In addition, Gucci’s new mind-set helped him shed numerous pounds and ditch his signature gut, which once added to his appeal as a rapper.
