Gucci, Mane of the people
In the early morning hours of Tuesday, February 27, Gucci Mane took to Twitter to make an announcement that may excite his former high school classmates. The tweet he sent out informed his followers that this year marks his 20th year after graduating from McNair High School in DeKalb County, Georgia in 1998. To celebrate, Gucci explained that he wanted to invite anybody who graduated from the high school to the V-103 Car and Bike show in Atlanta, and included that he would like to pay for the 20-year reunion himself.
If you’ve been staying up on how Gucci Mane’s behavior for the past couple years, this generous offer hardly comes as a surprise. Since his release from prison back in 2016, Gucci has done a complete 180 in his lifestyle.
A Tough Spot
Back in 2013, Gucci allegedly assaulted two different fans, then soon got hit with marijuana possession, gun possession, and disorderly conduct charges that would all eventually lead to his arrest and incarceration. In the same year, Gucci had hit a breaking point and started popping off on Twitter, taking aim at friends and other industry players.
After his Twitter tirade had ended, Gucci made a public announcement blaming his actions on his drug addiction, particularly with lean. These tweets were sent out while he was incarcerated, but Gucci let it be known that he was still going to seek rehab treatment while he was locked up.
Since Gucci was a convicted felon, his gun possession charges could have had him locked up for up to 20 years. Thankfully, it didn’t turn out like that. Gucci only served three years, but he would later say in a XXL interview that those three years played a critical role in being the person he is today. It dried him out from drugs, cut away what he considered to be toxic relationships in his life, and gave him time to reflect on his position in life.
After he was released, Gucci Mane started living his best life. He started releasing music at an insane pace, went to Europe for the first time, wrote an autobiography (which will soon be transformed into a biopic), and married his girl, Keyshia Ka’oir. That’s not to mention his complete physical transformation as well. He went from having a bloated lean-belly to being completely shredded once he got out of prison. His entire transformation was radical enough for people to start believing the old Gucci Mane had been replaced with a clone, something that many still believe to this day. Gucci says that he’s heard these rumors, and weighed in with his thoughts in an interview with The FADER:
“It’s funny to me. I guess that, you know, people ain’t used to me being healthy, and taking care of myself and being happy, so I can understand why they shocked. It’s funny; I embrace it. It just let me know, a clone is like perfection, so if I look like a machine or a robot, then I’m doing something well.”
Only Good Vibes
All of this positivity that Gucci has been embodying lately is reflected in his tweets now too, and his high school reunion offer is far from the only tweet that does this. Other tweets by Gucci include messages like “I’m encouraging everyone to do better me included” and “Just keep doing you with integrity!”. With such an inspirational vibe emanating from the formerly ferocious trap star, we see Gucci doing nothing but good in time to come.
