She also revealed the baby's father!
Foxy Brown has finally shared a photo of her baby girl!
The rapper was decidedly secretive about her pregnancy and the birth of her daughter ― in fact, she hasn’t even shared the name of the baby’s father ― but she dropped the veil in celebration of her 39th birthday.
The rapper shared a video of her daughter to Instagram with Lauryn Hill’s song “To Zion” playing in the background. The famous ode to young motherhood follows Lauryn’s decision to go against the advice of her entire family and go through with her pregnancy. It relates the happiness that she feels every time that she sees her young son and how she believes it to be a gift from God.
Foxy’s post was consistent with the song choice:
“My Gorgeous, Greatest, Gray Eyed BIRTHDAY GIFT GLORY TO GOD My GREATEST Hit Obsessively IN LOVE,” she wrote.
Most of the information we’ve been able to glean about Foxy’s baby girl has come from an interesting source: talk show host Wendy Williams.
Williams announced the news that Foxy’s baby had been born on her show.
“Literally, as I’m putting on my bracelet, the telephone rings,” she said. “Congratulations to Foxy Brown. She had a baby girl.”
Wendy also gave some possible clues as to who the father is, but refused to name anyone in particular, leaving that bit of noise for the artist herself to share.
“No word on exactly who the baby’s father is but allegedly it’s a reggae star, and I’m not going to say his name because I think that me and Foxy have some sort of relationship, and the bureau does have a working telephone,” she explained. “So, maybe she’ll call us.”
Foxy’s not saying and it’s been a long while since her live life has been in the public eye. Back in the early 2000s, she was romantically involved with reggae singer Spragga Benz. But only Foxy can confirm or deny whether Benz or another artist is the baby’s father.
Foxy Brown hasn’t been active in quite a while, releasing the occasional guest verse over the last decade or so. However, in her heyday she was a force to be reckoned with. It’s fitting that she chose a track from Lauryn Hill’s classic album as Hill was the first woman to debut at the top of the Billboard 200 with a rap album. Foxy was the second with her album Chyna Doll. Around the time of her third album, she met Benz and the pair collaborated on the song “Oh Yeah.”
An Update (and the Picture)!
UPDATE: Foxy has revealed the name of her baby’s father. It is, in fact, Spragga Benz. She posted an interview clip of the singer praising her with the caption “Daddy.”
“Me personally as a person, I have great respect for her,” Spragga said of Foxy in the clip. “I’ve seen other sides of her that the world don’t know. I’ve seen the loving person that she is.”
His comments mirror the kind that Foxy has made about him in the past.
“16 Years Ago In TRINIDAD GOD Sent Me The ONLY Man Who Ever Owned My Heart,” wrote Foxy. “LADIES WHEN YOU’RE LOVED AND RESPECTED BY A KING NO BWOY CAN COMPARE THANK YOU Bby For Loving Me To My Soul.#ForeverMyHEART”
