Talking about parenting can be… touchy. While it’s no secret that raising a child is hard, which parenting woes a parent chooses to complain about can tell a lot about them. It can also earn them a lot of backlash.
Former Basketball Wives LA star Draya Michele is learning this lesson… the social media way. The model and media personality got a schooling in ‘how to be a decent parent’ by Twitter and Instagram users after she vented about her son’s homework assignments in a lengthy Instagram post.
“Let’s discuss this,” the star began the long caption, alongside screen-capped text messages between her and her son. She went on to explain that her oldest son Kniko has to memorize a speech about “how American history isn’t present as much in college education.” Before calling the topic a “snooze,” the mom-of-two said, “His teacher is requiring me to sign papers everyday saying he’s read the speech 5x out loud and stuff.”
Draya then recalled having to sign off on the assignment 18 times over the Thanksgiving break. “I’m all for helping my child with his homework, but at this point, she has him harassing me with this speech,” she wrote. “I don’t wanna hear it no more.”
After “hearing it 2x a day for a month straight,” the star decided enough was enough. She refused to sign off on the assignment, sending Kniko to school empty handed. “Mom are you for real I didn’t get a note card now I’m not getting those points,” Kniko texted Draya, as shown in the now-deleted IG post.
“It’s not my damn homework. But it feels like it,” Draya ended the post. “What y’all think?”
Draya asked people what they thought, so they told her.
“Draya had time to give us a step by step of how she made every nasty thing she cooked for Thanksgiving, but not enough time to sign her son’s homework,” Twitter user JediMassaYoda tweeted.
“Draya other son like 2 years old & still can’t talk. Her priorities all fu–ed up,” Twitter user jailposejesus pointed out.
The True to the Game star probably regrets posting about Kniko and his homework, much more so asking the people of the internet what they think. Draya promptly deleted the post and (as of this writing) hasn’t posted anything else. That definitely didn’t stop people from throwing their two cents into the well though.
Even The Read co-host Crissle chimed in on the conversation. “Draya is bi–hing because her kid expects her to actually parent,” she tweeted.
“Young Black boys dropping out of school at the highest rates of any demographic in the country. Yours wants to EXCEL and you do this. Shameful,” posted user NotGeauxGabby.
A Busy Bee?
Guys… Draya is busy.
The socialite is an accomplished peacemaker after all. When Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood stars Masika Kalysha and Hazel-E were fighting over who-knows-what, Draya chimed in on Instagram as the voce of reason.
“I remember how it felt to be this stressed out. And I hate watching anyone else go through this. Need you two to figure out a way to separate this TV show from real life and do it fast,” said Draya, who was last seen on her reality show Basketball Wives in 2016.
“You guys are both taking this ‘job’ personal. Y’all signed up for this bulls–t and you know what comes with it. Lies mix with the truth but really it’s all about whatever makes good television and you know this.”
Masika and Hazel are still feuding, though, so Draya may not be that great of a peacemaker after all.
