He vowed to never get back there
Desiigner’s manic energy and constantly upbeat demeanor has led plenty of people to snipe at him. His constant ad-libs and wild shouting have even lead to accusations of drugs and/or mental problems in various memes poking fun at the exuberant “Panda” rapper. But it turns out there’s a real explanation for Desiigner’s always-on beaming, and it comes from a pretty dark place.
In an new interview with Snoop Dogg’s GGN News, the rapper said his energy stems from a low point where he considered killing himself. Apparently, the rapper went to a battle and the energy of the crowd around him was so off that he went home and contemplated suicide.
After feeling disconnected from the energy of the crowd, Desiigner decided that it was over for him. But the mere thought of suicide was enough to shock him back to reality.
“I went home, I said, f*ck that sh*t, I’ma kill myself,” he said. “The second I said that sh*t, I got scared as hell. I got scared cause I told myself that.”
Desiigner was so frightened by the fact that his brain could go to that dark place that he vowed to smile through life from then on out.
“So when I told myself that, I’m like, nah, I ain’t killin’ myself. So from there on, I always kept a smile on my face,” he said in the interview. “There’s so much more I can do. I can never kill myself.”
Clearly Desiigner was right. After that rap battle he went on to have a mega-hit in “Panda” and should-have-beens in both “Tiimmy Turner” and “Outlet.”
The “be happy” story is a notable turnaround from the recent stories surrounding the rapper. He’s failed to score another hit on the same level as his opening salvo and – in the absence of another smash – he’s really only managed to make news for his problems.
He recently got blasted by Greek Picnic in Atlanta for no-showing a planned performance and hip-hop’s transphobes pressured him to respond to footage of him dancing with a trans woman. Not to mention, his tone-def response lead to a call from his more open-minded fans for more sensitivity.
“Now they trying to make a joke of me, you know what I’m saying? Put these videos up. I didn’t even know that was a f*cking dude. We were at a party, man. They came up to me,” he wrote to some backlash.

Even so, it seems like Desiigner’s positivity held true, with him encouraging the others to go ahead and get known off of what they see as a faux pas on his part.
“I’m a celebrity, man. Get your clout, man. Get your clout off that sh*t,” he said.
Though he hasn’t had a hit in a while, he used his Instagram to state in no uncertain terms that he hasn’t fallen off.
“For all them haters out there man. I don’t wanna hear all this sh*t, ‘Desiigner fell off,’” he said in an Instagram video. “Desiigner never fell nowhere. You feel what I’m saying? I fell into a motherf*ckin’ mansion I just bought in L.A.,” he wrote.
