Steve has the moves
A South Carolina show by comedian Steve Brown ended suddenly after an audience member stormed the stage and tried to fight him.
In a fan-shot video, Brown can be seen repeatedly ducking punches thrown by the audience member, who eventually gets frustrated and tries to hit Brown with the mic stand. When Brown dodges that as well, the fan chucks the stool at the star before other audience members stepped in between them and pushed the man toward the door.
Brown shared a series on Instagram posts showing the aftermath of the fight and calling the club out for not providing adequate security.
“Them mic stands are a b**ch,” he said alongside a photo of a gash he received when the man swung the stand at him. “In the future, I’m gonna start pulling mic stands on these n***as… #thankscomedyhouse #wherewassecurity#imtooldforthissh*t.”
In a video, he also explained how the situation began. He said the attack was entirely unprovoked.
“The thing is, the dude wasn’t being heckled. Nobody was messing with him,” he said. “All of a sudden dude just got up and lost his mind. I asked him if he was okay. I had to give him the comedian disclaimer, if you come on stage your a** is open game. You saw what happened. He was doing all that swinging and I was doing the ducking.”
He also found a moment to turn the entire event into a joke.
“If you look at the video, I was talking to him. I was like ‘Dude, you’re gonna get tired and I’m gonna knock your a** out,’” he said.
However, Brown saved most of his words for the comedy club that allowed the fight to happen in the first place. He was mad that the man was allowed to get to the stage and the security never stepped in to stop the fight.
“First off let me start by saying Thanks for the calls and messages from friends, fans and my family,” he wrote in Instagram. “With that being said, let me say this. This unprovoked attack that happened to me tonight is a reminder of why these comedy clubs should have well equipped PROFESSIONAL security to protect us entertainers who bring their club so much money. I thank God for looking out for me and giving my old a** the ability to Bob and weave because this could have ended in horrible way.”
Fans commended Brown for his moves and agreed that security needed to be better.
“D**n bro you were moving. Lol glad your ok tho,. Security needs to step up their game. That bit#h should have never made it on stage,” wrote one fan under the name @martin10884.
A promoter chimed in with his take.
“This is so disturbing to me! SMH I book comics and bring them to different cities all the time and that has never happened!” wrote @iamkatsmith1. “I thank God you are doing well & made it away safely but SECURITY is a MUST!”

Other fans had jokes about Brown’s defensive skillset.
“Bro you had to be the king at dodgeball, the king at touch football,” wrote another fan with the handle @qmedian “We knowww @comicstevebrown is from the hood #CantCatchHim.”
“1st thing that came to my mind was Friday. When Ezel was like ‘Debo! Man you should have been bobbing and weaving. Get Up!’ Lol But na tho,” wrote @ahsh_thawak. “Glad you good and I only thought of that cause ya dodge game was on a million. This is how you know this kids need old school cats cause some of these young rappers get hit with everything smh.”
