"I still don't like you."
Cardi B is famously a person who can make a beef last the rest of her life, and her recent glow-up hasn’t changed that. The “Bodak Yellow” rapper made her name by being her unapologetically petty and angry self, and she’s not changing that just because she’s performing inside the Museum of Modern Art.
Cardi shouted out a mystery woman who was trying to act friendly now that Cardi’s famous, and she simply asked the lady what part of “Forever” did she not understand? “You know this b*tch,” Cardi says in a fan-shot video. “She never f*cking liked me and now, all of a sudden, she wants to be friends with me. No, b*tch. I still don’t like you b*tch.”
Because the world is terrible and there can never be two female MCs without the world painting them as at each other’s throats, the rumor mill kicked into overdrive. Was she talking about Nicki Minaj? Remy Ma? Trina? (Note: Don’t come for Trina.) No, more likely she was talking about some hanger-on from the old days who wants to come up with her. And the entirety of her discography should let you know that Cardi doesn’t play the radio and she’s not here for that sort of fakery.
New Single Coming
Cardi B hasn’t clarified on her social media who she was talking about. It’s unlikely that she will. She doesn’t have time to get caught up in some nonsense with “Bodak” continuing to creep toward the top of the charts and a repping Spanish-language version of the hit coming on Friday.
Though we haven’t heard any previews, Cardi did perform the track from a float during NYC’s Dominican Day Parade and a few clips of that exist. Check out a shot of her performing her likely next hit — anything to knock off “Despacito” — up top.
Beyond the drama, it’s worth noting that Cardi was playing yet another big stage, even if that stage was adorned with a god-awful fidget spinner ceiling fan. Cardi has been popping up in absolutely massive spaces lately, playing Veld Fest alongside her beau Offset and the rest of Migos and even getting an on-stage co-sign from Drake at his OVO Fest.
After that massive show of support, Drake even gassed up Cardi backstage, complimenting her for not changing who she was in service of fame.
“That’s the best thing you can possibly do,” he said. “I’m proud of you. That’s why everyone keeps saying that to you like ‘Oh, I’m proud of you. I’m happy for you.’ Because you’re you, you know? You get to be yourself.” “You don’t have to be somebody else or some sh*t,” he said. “Just keep it up.”
