The engagement caused such a wave through the hip-hop community that BET and VH1 passive aggressively stepped over each other for rights to braodcast the big day.
After Twitter user @hlalalamsaveni tweeted, “Offset and Cardi B just got engaged. On God, if they don’t have a tv special for the wedding and call it ‘Never Let Migo,’ Ima be pissed,” BET took the idea seriously. The television network, known for celebrating black people and black culture, replied to the tweet, saying, “@iamcardib @offsetyrn – #WeGotYou when you ready!”
However, despite Gucci Mane and Keyshia Ka’oir’s successful wedding special with BET, the network might not get that deal. Mona Scott herself replied to BET’s tweet, quoting lyrics directly from Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow.” “Love ya @BET but #WeGotThis. #AnotherCheckFromMonaScott @VH1 #4evah!” the producer tweeted.
There was never any follow up on the topic because Cardi nor Offset responded. (Shockingly, no one has brought it up in any of their latest interviews.) Maybe the duo is too busy being in love — and spoiling each other with $200,000 cars — to give BET or VH1 the time of day.
