Building an Empire
With their work-first mindsets in tow, both star’s careers are flourishing. Culture II, Migos’ second album to hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 200, is blasting through speakers everywhere. Quavo, Takeoff, and Offset are now on the short list of rap groups who have more than one No. 1 album under their belts.
Meanwhile, Cardi recently made her ad debut on the small screen, starring in Amazon’s Super Bowl commercial. In the promo, the retailer’s “intelligent personal assistant” Alexa has lost her voice. In the face of reputation-damaging headlines, Amazon executives scramble to find good voice replacements.
The electronic commerce company calls on the help of celebrity chief Gordon Ramsey, Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson, and rapstress Cardi B to answer Alexa user’s questions and requests.
“Alexa, how far is Mars?” asks a high school student doing his homework. Chiming in for Alexa, Cardi B answers, “How far is Mars? Well, how am I supposed to know? I never been there.”
“This guy wanna go to Mars,” Cardi says with a laugh. “For what? There’s not even oxygen there.”
Cardi’s the only celeb to show up in the commercial twice. Her second wave of air time comes after an Alexa user requests some country music. Instead of Luke B, Cardi B stars playing. After seconds of “Bodak Yellow,” the user asks for country music again. However… “Bodak Yellow” starts up again.
