This picnic/video shoot turned deadly
One person is dead and four more are wounded after a shooting during a music video shoot for Sacramento rapper C-Bo.
According to Sacramento’s Fox affiliate, the shooting happened on Sunday afternoon (August 27) at the Meadowview Park in South Sacramento. Police learned of the shooting at 2:45 p.m. local time and when they came up upon the scene, they found one victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Four others had been taken to the hospital by people who were at the park when the shooting started.
While four of the victims are currently listed in stable condition, one of the shooting victims did die of his injuries. Forty-nine-year-old Ernie Cadena was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital.
All Good…At First
The crowd at the park were gathered to shoot two music videos for C-Bo. The rapper posted an open call for people to come fill out the shots on his Instagram on Saturday, hoping that the event would serve both as a video shoot and a party in the park, complete with a picnic and some basketball.
“Video shoot tomorrow 12 noon let’s go sactown OGs will be outside,” he wrote. “Basketball dunking contest come correct 2 pair clothing this will be a 2 videos in one day shoot. Let’s have fun bring ya picnic blankets we eating and drinking.”
A livestream that C-Bo posted from the park showed that Bloods, Crips, and various bikers had turned up for the shoot, and at the time of the video, things appeared to be peaceful.
“It’s really motherf*cking unity up here with me,” he said. “I don’t give a f*ck where you from long as you keep it respectful, homie.”
“It ain’t about gangbanging. That sh*t is dead,” he said. “I mean we Crips and everything, but look at the Crips…You wanna be dumb and broke and still in the hood, keep poppin’ that sh*t.”
He said that he used to be mean but he was never a bully. And he’s definitely calmed down since his younger days.
“I don’t pick on nobody,” he said. “I love my people.”
How Did This Happen?
The rest of the video showed C-Bo moving between different sets and talking to people who were seemingly happy. However, shortly after the video ended the shooting began. Police have not released any information on a suspect and they are currently investigating whether or not the incident was gang-related.
While C-Bo is a legend in Sacramento, he does have people who might not think so highly of him. He is currently beefing with up-and-coming rapper Mozzy. The two have traded diss tracks back and forth throughout the year.
“Bald headed bum, n*gga said he a living legend, living like a peasant,” Mozzy said on the track “New Era New King.”
“If n*ggas know me, then n*ggas know, f*ck Bo,” he said later in the track. At this time, however, there’s no telling if the shooting had to do with C-Bo or the attendees who turned up for his video shoot. It’s possible that the shooting has to do with bad blood toward the rapper, but it’s probably more likely that a crowd full of probably armed men turned sour. No matter how much unity C-Bo preaches, hot is hot.
Clearly, something went wrong here, but as of now it’s unclear exactly what.
