Love in Rare Form
What actually happens between celebrities is 90% speculation, rumors, and outsiders looking in. Until the stars themselves decide to tell it all, everyone else is simply left guessing. With that said, the relationship between Jhené Aiko and Big Sean is… a bit of a mystery. While it is public knowledge that the pair is a couple, no one truly knows the depth of their relationship. Without an extensive knowledge of their history together, onlookers may believe they are moving fast, but no one really knows. Then again, as long as the couple is happy, no one should really care.
With engagement rumors flying around, one thing is for sure: something good is taking place.
When Jhené hit the scene with Sailing Soul(s) in 2011, she came in strong. Her ultra-relatable lyrics and smooth, easy-going beats made listeners flock to her, propping her up as a fan favorite. Her relaxing, sun-flowery style stayed consistent from Sail Out to Trip.
What didn’t stay consistent was her marriage to producer Dot da Genius. The couple announced their marriage in 2016, separating soon after, and officially divorced earlier this year. Speculation behind their separation was plentiful, with a lot of people blaming the break up on Jhené’s relationship with Sean.
Despite the theories though, the “While We’re Young” singer insists that her and Sean’s relationship was strictly platonic back then, saying that she never disrespected her marriage with Dot da Genius. The couple reportedly didn’t begin a romantic relationship until after Jhené and her husband’s separation. “Never let a man disrespect u in any way… I only cheated myself. so glad to be free from all the drugs, depression and confrontation,” she tweeted.
Proceeding to live her best life with the “Bounce Back” rapper, days after her divorce was finalized, Jhené tattooed her favorite picture of Big Sean on her left arm. Of course, naysayers cried that the ink was too permanent too soon. According to the singer though, Sean really helped her through the death of her brother Miyagi, the most difficult time of her life. She’s also said on multiple occasions that Sean reminds her of Miyagi, something she has searched for in a partner since his death in 2012.
In an interview with Billboard, the “Bed Peace” artist gushed that her deep connection with Sean is a first for her “because I’ve never ever ever had a relationship where we were friends first.”
“When I met Sean, if you looked in the dictionary for Jhené Aiko, it would be a picture of Sean. Basically, he is my type, but he knows,” she revealed.
While neither artist has confirmed that they’ve taken their relationship to the next level, Big Sean was caught with some jewelry on his left hand… on the finger reserved for engagement/wedding bands. A photo posted onto Jermaine Dupri’s Instagram page Halloween night shows him and Sean costumed in ’80s apparel and a thin band on Sean’s hand.
