Going for the song of the season, Dj Khaled’s “Top Off” hit streaming services everywhere today (March 2). Khaled teased the single — the first one from his upcoming album Father of Asahd — late last night with an Instagram video. The clip features the producer and his young son Asahd, showing the two sitting in a luxury car with the top slowly coming off.
“I took the top of the Maybach,” Future says in the chorus.
According to Twitter, no one on the track was more impressive than Beyoncé. “Beyonce is legend. #TopOff,” activist Deray Mckesson tweeted. “Jay, Future… how y’all let Bey have the best verse on the song?” another Twitter user posted.
Before shouting out “free Meek” — just like Jay-Z in his verse — Queen Bey began, “I’m the only lady here, still the realest n***a in the room.” Moving on to what some are taking as Kim Kardashian shade, she continues, “I break the internet, top two, and I ain’t number two.”
“So Beyoncé DEFINITELY threw bars at Kim Kardashian 😂😂😂 #TopOff,” wrote a Twitter user. “Beyoncé went in the booth for Top Off and sang every caption she wanted to post on Instagram but decided not to,” BuzzFeed reporter Sylvia Obell tweeted.
During an interview with TV One, the comedian, who earned tons of attention from her role in Girl’s Trip, was a little too chatty about her encounter with Jay-Z and Beyoncé. Tiffany gushed about meeting the “Love on Top” singer before sharing the details of an incident that happened at an after party the two attended together.
“I was talking to Jay-Z for a lil bit, and there was another actress that was there, who was also talking to Jay-Z,” Tiffany said. “And she, she touched Jay-Z’s chest. And Beyoncé came walking up like ‘b**tch.’ But she ain’t say that, but her demeanor, her body, the way she walked up on her was like… ‘Get your hand off my man chest.'”
“There’s a disconnect”
After listeners took a break from buzzing over B’s verse, they realized that Jay and Future were on a song together, which reminded everyone of their alleged beef in 2017. After 4:44 was released last summer, fans couldn’t help but notice some possible Future shade on “Kill Jay-Z.”
“You almost went Eric Benét, let the baddest girl in the world get away/I don’t even know what else to say… n***a, never go Eric Benét!/I don’t even know what you woulda done, in the Future, other niggas playin’ football with your son,” Jay rapped. The bars seemed to reference Ciara, who is now married to football player Russell Wilson, and Future’s break up.
Rumors that there was bad blood between the two were fueled even more after Future posted a picture of himself with a money phone. On Jigga’s “The Story of O.J.,” he blatantly showed his disdain for the act, rapping, “Y’all on the ‘gram holdin’ money to your ear/There’s a disconnect, we don’t call that money over here.”
However, with this recent collab, the beef rumors have been put to rest.
