Would you look at that… What was only a rumor last week has turned out to be true. Earlier today (March 12), Beyoncé announced that On the Run II, the sequel to her and Jay-Z’s On the Run Tour, is coming to a concert venue near you. Taking to Instagram to break the news, the songstress posted a short promo video with no caption.
Oh Bey, forever the mysterious one.
To a slowed-down version Sean Paul’s “I’m still in love with you,” the promo video showed clips of the Lemonade singer and her husband in concert as well as shots of them during their down time. According to the post, fans can buy presale tickets starting March 14 (Wednesday). Regular tickets will go on sale the following Monday, March 19.
“Yoncé !!!! I am coming for you!!!!! Take my money!!!!” wrote an Instagram user. “I’m going. Bey and Jay I will without a doubt give you all my coins,” added another.
While some jokingly negotiated payment plan options and others dramatically offered up their homes in exchange for front row seats, some focused on music to come. “New music is around the corner,” commented an Instagram user. “I can already sense a summer bop,” agreed another.
No matter what fans said about the news of OTR II, it seems as though no one was surprised. After most of the concert information was leaked last week, fans knew something was up.
Rumor has it…
After their iconic On the Run Tour, fans have been waiting with baited breath for the couple to announce a follow up. Then, last week (March 5) — about four years after Beyoncé and Jay-Z performed all around North America and some of Europe — people were speculating that their wishes had been granted. Both artists have (fairly) recently released albums (i.e. Jay-Z’s 4:44, 2017, and Bey’s Lemonade, 2016), but that is not what had the rumor mill spinning about a possible second tour from the couple.
The internet was set a buzz after tour dates/pre-sale ticket info popped on Yoncé’s Facebook and Ticketmaster pages. Though all traces of the tour have been deleted, screenshots last forever.
“UMMMMM SO BEYONCÉ JUST ADDED THIS EVENT ON TICKETMASTER???” wrote one Twitter user, alongside a screenshot of the concert information. Another excited user theorized, “If Bey and Jay are really gonna go On The Run 2 tour that only means one of them is releasing new music and Jay recently released 4:44 so it must mean.. BEYONCÉ IS RELEASING A NEW ALBUM SOON. Hold on to your edges.”
According to social media, there was info on a performance at Philly’s Lincoln Financial Field, dated July 30. A pre-sale link for both Jay and Beyoncé was reportedly scheduled for March 6, but it completely disappeared barely two hours later. Of course, the tour itself turned out to be legit but fans will have to wait a few more days to see if the dates and times were accurate.
This news surely overshadows the bad light Jay’s name was in after professional boxer Jermell Charlo — who was in New York to see a fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn — was robbed at Jigga’s NYC nightclub, 40/40. Five women reportedly stole Charlo’s bag that contained $40,000 in cash and $115,000 worth of jewelry.
