Hit 'em up!
Tupac is one of the most beloved artists of all time. His impact on the rap game is unmatched, and many look at him as the greatest rapper of all time. After the success of Straight Outta Compton in 2015, many people were calling for a hip hop movie centered around Tupac.
That’s exactly what they got, but unfortunately it might not have lived up to the expectations. The reviews are all over the place, and with different celebrities hating on the film, it might be a big hole to climb out of. Now the filmmakers are facing something even worse… a lawsuit!
The film is easily going to make more than it’s budget; a profit will be turned, but at the same time, it is receiving a ton of criticism. At the time of this post, the rating for the film on Rotten Tomatoes is a terrible 20% and just a 6.1/10 on IMDB.
Not only that, but plenty of people are dissing the film and it’s credibility. 50 Cent posted to his Instagram account, saying that the movie was absolute trash; Jada Pinkett Smith said that it was filled to the brim with inaccuracies surrounding her character.
Good Job, Bad Job
Jada did say that Kat Graham did a great job playing her and that Demetrius Shipp Jr. did a great job portraying Tupac, but she had some criticisms as well. There were apparently some mess ups with the way they displayed the relationship between Jada and Tupac.
While she says they were wrong, the directors and producers still defend the film. Now the film has another big problem on their hands: a lawsuit from Kevin Powell.
Kevin Powell is a journalist and a political activist who spent some of his time as a senior writer for VIBE Magazine back in the 90’s. The lawsuit that he filed is against the producers of the film and against Lionsgate for copyright infringement.
Powell claims that the film transgresses on some of the articles that he wrote back in the day when he was with VIBE. He took to Facebook to further explain the situation so that everyone could understand what was really going on.
