Her cash flow may take a dent after this
Nicki Minaj’s singles and features stay on the charts. She kills the music scene and even the movie screens with roles in The Other Women and Barbershop: The Next Cut. With her fourth studio album is in the works, she won’t be trying to slow down any time soon.
Nicki has definitely torn her way up through the male-dominated world of hip hop to become a true star. She’s also got great crossover appeal, doing well hooking pop fans into her queendom. So, hopefully she won’t lose too many fans over her latest tweet that really hurt people who have love for a deceased hip hop artist.
Queen of R&B
Aaliyah was a very talented young woman who started making tunes when she was just a pre-teen. She was signed to Atlantic in 1996, releasing her second album One in a Million, which as produced by Timbaland and Missy Elliott, soon after. It went double platinum.
Her career wasn’t just about music; she was in the 2000 film Romeo Must Die and the extremely successful 2002 vampire movie Queen of the Damned. That film, however, was released just after her untimely death.
Aaliyah and her crew were in the Bahamas filming her video for “Rock the Boat.” When they wanted to go home, they boarded a small plane that was overloaded; the pilot also had obtained a fraudulent pilot’s license. The plane took off on August 25, 2001, but crashed and exploded into flames shortly thereafter. All eight passengers died. Aaliyah had severe burns and a head wound.
After Aaliyah’s tragically short, but incredible career, you’d think that those who followed in her path would be more respectful to her. So when Nicki Minaj showed the world what she really thinks about her predecessor, people started throwing tons of shade at her.
Nicki posted a screenshot of a group chat she’s in, in which there’s a picture of a guy holding a cat. She captioned the screenshot: “Someone’s in my dm’s saying they wish this man, (who’s holding a cat) would hold them they way he’s holding this dog. I – I’m so confused.”
While nothing is shocking about any of the messages, the name of the group chat upset so many people.
This chat Nicki is in is called “Aaliyah’s Airlines” and includes emojis of a plane and fire. Clearly, this title is in reference to Aaliyah’s deadly flight all those years ago.
The post was shared thousands of times before Nicki deleted it. She has yet to explain what was going on, keeping her nose to the grindstone, trying to promote her new makeup line with MAC Cosmetics.
Her fans said a ton though; they did not hold back.
User hosthetic said, “The fact that Nicki Minaj is in a group called ‘Aaliyah Airlines’………. she’s such an embarrassment.” User intosyou took the opportunity to drag Nicki’s makeup line, saying, “Aaliyah Airlines? Nicki Minaj, sweetie, Aaliyah is dead and her MAC campaign will make more than yours.”
User exaltedpac tried to explain that the picture was not a mistake as some people tried to say. She wrote, “Nicki know d**n well that dm wasn’t even interesting to screenshot and the fact that the group chat was called ‘Aaliyah Airlines’ wasn’t cute.”
What do you think about Nicki’s little picture? Was it a deliberate jab at a deceased artist, or was it a simple mistake? Let us know what you think in the comments and SHARE this story!
