The 'Gummo' rapper is going down
Rapper Tekashi69 has pled guilty to charges of sexual misconduct with a child.
The “Gummo” rapper accepted three felony counts of “Use of a Child in a Sexual Performance,” stemming from an incident that occurred over the summer. The age and name of the girl involved are unknown. What we do know is 6ix9ine’s fellow Brooklyn rapper ZillaKami posted photos of Tekashi fondling the girl and claimed that she was just 13 years old. Tekashi was over 18 at the time the photos were taken.
6ix9ine’s guilty plea comes as a bit of a shock given how vehemently he and his team denied the charges.
“He doesn’t even like to say the R word, we don’t play around with that sh*t,” a representative for the rapper told Mass Appeal earlier this year. “As someone with a 3-year-old daughter we take this very seriously… Their whole thing was to try to slander his name and make him look terrible.”
The rapper could be facing up to 15 years per count.
6ix9ine was notable for his bubbling-under hit “Gummo,” his colorful appearance and meme-able hair and his associations with more-famous acts like Trippie Redd. However, Redd was quick to distance himself from the rapper once the allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor came to light.
“I’m sorry brozay, 1400 don’t promote pedophiles,” Trippie said in a since-deleted Instagram video. “If we give n*ggas clout, we give n*ggas clout. It was an accident.”
Pi’erre Bourne — the producer of his hit who also put together Playboi Carti’s “Magnolia” — separated himself from the rapper on social media.
“F*ck that Gummo sh*t,” he wrote. “Y’all n*ggas doing weird sh*t some opps.”
The charges are the latest chapter in the seemingly endless story of young SoundCloud rappers and their associations with heinous crimes. Kodak Black and XXXTentacion have faced charges on everything from domestic battery to rape. While 6ix9ine is probably facing a significant prison term, his more famous contemporaries are anything but in the clear.
While Kodak seems to have mellowed after being released from jail, keeping his name out of the headlines for offensive actions, X can’t help but stay in trouble. Not a week goes by without a fight at a show, an offensive comment or a scrap with his fellow rap stars.
X recently posted a video that he claims showed the aftermath of a fight between himself and Migos. He also said that the trio had a gun and didn’t use it, which he thought showed that they were soft. The star said:
“How you have fire and ain’t shoot me? After all that s–t I been talkin’, how the f–k you ain’t shoot me? Y’all ni–as pu–y as f–k,” X said in the rant. “Y’all rap ni–as be rapping ’bout killing ni–as and shooting ni–as and this and that… But you caught me outside a hotel and ain’t shoot s–t boy.“
Outside of the rap world, the ongoing revelations that many powerful men regularly sexually abused the women around them brings fresh horrors every day. Since a group of women finally made the decision to go on record and bring down mega-producer Harvey Weinstein, the ongoing scandals surrounding entertainment have found their way to the doorsteps of everyone from Louis C.K. and Kevin Spacey to comedian and senator Al Franken.
