50 Cent used to be one of the most popular rappers in the game. While he’s still very relevant in the hip hop world, he doesn’t put as much effort into pumping out music as he used to. Jay-Z on the other hand has been making music for decades and still dominates the charts. I mean, he just dropped his 13th studio album, 4:44!
However, when asked about how he felt about Jay’s success, 50 had some interesting things to say.
50 Cent and JAY-Z are still two of the biggest names in hip hop and both have enjoyed surprising career longevity. The 47-year-old JAY-Z recently released his 13th studio album, 4:44, and fans are loving it. Except for one person: 50 Cent.
50 is getting a little long in the tooth himself―and he hasn’t released his own music in quite a while―so it seems like his recent criticisms might be coming from jealousy, rather than musicality.
Fifty recently said that he thinks Jay is too old to be the best rapper in the game. The G-Unit rapper was being talking to a reporter when he made the statement, and despite confessing his love for 4:44 he eventually said he thought it was “too smart.”
He didn’t seem to like the idea of Jay being one of the most dominant rappers in the game at his age, even though he liked the album.
“Hip hop culture’s youth culture. Say that again: 47 years old. When you’re there there’s no way you can be the actual best guy in there. There’s no way,” he said.
He went on to talk about how different rap is than it used to be, saying that there is a bigger influence from rock nowadays and citing the lyrics of rappers like Lil Uzi Vert and XXXTentacion as examples.
